Strike force battle on the Moon. |
Story Mode
As for the story, I only recall that there was this golden age and people were all happy, and then some mysterious "darkness" came and took it all away. Now it's your job to push it back and lead our civilization to glory once again. The story is kinda dissapointing, and definitely doesn't stack up against any of their halo games. Check out what I mean here. I thought that the enemies were really well thought out and difficult to fight, which made for a solid FPS experience. The AI is pretty good too, as it realizes when it's getting it's butt kicked and scrambles for some nearby cover. The boss fights that are usually at the end of missions are challenging, but not impossible (yes, that's you borderlands 2!) and their weapons are very powerful if you happen to get caught by them.
Mars |
So, in terms of places that you can visit, there's Earth, which is teeming with four eyed, four armed aliens which want to tear your face off (the Fallen), Mars, which has 800 pound beasts with jet packs and slug rifles trying to kill you (the Cabal), the Moon, where there are these vicious, flesh eating hordes of monsters that relentlessly chase you down (the Hive), and Venus, where there is a massive army of self replicating robots (the Vex). No matter what planet you visit, you're in for a rough ride.
Venus |
There's also the Tower, where you can meet your friends, check your inbox for rewards and friend messages, buy items like weapons and armor, and receive objectives from its inhabitants.
There are also daily story missions that are locked at heroic difficulty, and weekly heroic 3 player strikes. The "Vault of Glass" raid has opened up, but I haven't heard of anyone beating it yet.

Multiplayer
Once you reach level 5, you receive an invitation from this dude at the tower that invites you to fight in the Crucible, the multiplayer mode in Destiny. After all, what shooter is complete without competitive multiplayer? (another thing borderlands 2 is missing). There are four or five different game modes. You unlock the next gamemode after playing one game in the previous mode.
Control: 6 on 6 competitive mode. Capture and hold the control points to receive more points for each kill. First team to 20,000 wins.
Clash: 6 on 6 competitive mode. Kill the opposing team.
Rumble: 6 player deathmatch. Kill everyone.
Skirmish: 3v3 deathmatch. Revive teammates and kill enemies to earn points.
There is a new gamemode added every weekend, but only during that time can you play it.

In the story mode, what passes for co-op are strike missions, levels where you and a couple of other guardians team up to fight the darkness together. These missions are some of the most difficult in the game, but also the most rewarding for XP. I've even heard a rumor that the very hardest missions require so much skill and teamwork that you have to have four of your real life friends playing the level with you to get through it. Yes, really.

Loot and Leveling
To start, you pick one of three classes that your character will be in the game: Titan, a dude who uses heavy weapons like RPG's and LMG's to kill the enemy, while using the heaviest and most resistant armor in the game, the Hunter, a class that utilizes long range weaponry such as scout rifles, marksman rifles, pulse rifles, and sniper rifles to kill the enemy while boasting a high agility and appropriate skills like throwing knives, and the Warlock, a class that harnesses the power of exotic energies to do incredible damage to their enemies. I've played the titan and hunter so far, and haven't noticed a whole lot of difference between the two. One thing I've noticed is that the hunter has double jump, while the titan uses lift, a jet pack, to get to high places. They also use different armor.
The Vex mind |
Your character can be equipped with one regular weapon, one secondary weapon, a helmet, chestplate, gloves, and boots. When you gain XP, you get closer to unlocking more skills for your character, like double jump, for example. You collect these cube things called glimmer that pass for money, and you buy stuff with them (what else?). Every weapon and piece of armor in the game has a corresponding level requirement, and if you don't meet it, then you won't be able to use that item until you do.
Every time you kill an enemy, there is a slight chance that they'll drop some loot that you automatically pick up when you walk over it. There's also the matter of encrypted engrams, where you find them but can't do anything with them until you bring it to a decryptor guy cryptarch at the tower to decrypt it.
I hope you guys enjoyed this blog, and I might be adding to it soon, so keep checking back!
I'll (hopefully) see you in the world of Destiny! My gamertag on Xbox 360 is: buass2IsDaMan
