Hey guys! Today the subject is how to make money in Simcity 4, a realistic city game which brings hours and hours of entertainment. I will show you a few points on both maximizing profit, and minimizing expenses.
Maximizing Profit:
-A common mistake a lot of players make is that they raise taxes too high to make a surplus. I think this is, ironically, the WORST thing you can do to make some cash, as high taxes will not attract new
residents, industry, or (less importantly), commercial zones for the time being. Instead, build lots of medium density Industrial zones and medium density residential because medium density residential can support apartment blocks for several hundred poor residents. This will increase revenue very quickly.
-Make sure to water your buildings, but only use cheap water towers because they only cost $50 a
month to run. irrigating buildings will significantly increase density of buildings, leading to more people, and thus more money.
-If you're going to make a civic building like a school or hospital, make sure that you have a surplus at least as big as the amount that it costs every month to run. For example, if I wanted to make a school, which costs $400 every month, I would make sure my profit was at least $400 more than my expenses so I would not be losing money.
-To make towering hi-rises, zone a high density residential area and make sure there's low garbage, low pollution, low commute time (the time it takes to get to work from the structure), and high academic, hospital, police, and fire grades. These skyscrapers can hold thousands of residents each.
Minimizing Expenses:
-If you are still a small city with schools and hospitals, consider reducing the budget so the amount of teachers to students or doctors to patients will become more realistic. This will also reduce the money spent.
-Don't build landfills or any other structures to deal with garbage, you'll have to pay for the sanitation dept. (the garbage trucks/people who work to process garbage), which costs around $2000 a month for even a reasonably sized landfill, which is money that could be used to greater effect for health, education, or police or fire.
I hope you enjoyed this blog and if you have any questions or comments, post them below. SimCity 4 rocks! :)
